Allocate is delighted to have had two customers, Whittington Health NHS Trust and Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust shortlisted in this year’s HSJ Value Awards, the awards recognise organisations for improved value and efficiency in healthcare.

Allocate is pleased that our customer Whittington Health NHS Trust has won the HSJ Value award for Community Health Service Redesign 2018. This award recognises the Trust’s innovative team which has been setting new standards across Haringey and Islington, London using our community eRostering solution; eCommunity.

Since it implemented the solution in June 2017, the team at Whittington Health NHS Trust has been determined to tackle the daily challenges facing the trust, including:

  • daily demand exceeding capacity;
  • patients’ appointments moved multiple times;
  • team leaders spending more time allocating visits than performing clinical duties;
  • staff not always having the appropriate skill-set for their patient’s needs;
  • long distances between allocated visits.

The team at Whittington Health NHS Trust believes eCommunity made impact within one month of being operational. Service quality indicators revealed a reduction in unallocated visits. In May 2017, there were approximately 2,000 district nursing unallocated units (15 minutes each) rapidly falling to approximately 200 by the end of June 2017. There was also a reduction in missed visits and a significant improvement of skill mix allocation.

These combined factors led to an improved service for patients. It has also been of value to the district nursing service which has seen a decrease in WTE and budget expenditure from 2016/17 to 2017/18.

The judges from HSJ Value Awards stated that they were unanimous in their view that this service redesign not only met the criteria but also demonstrated a particularly strong focus on patient safety whilst covering a number of additional areas, including agile working, developing nursing skills and increasing productivity.

Having supported Whittington Health NHS Trust on this journey Allocate will continue to do so by sharing the Trust’s hard work with others. The Trust’s journey will be shared at the Community Scheduling Study Day – 12th September find out more and register here.
